Justine Henin Begins A Return

If we rewind by a few years in the women’s tennis world, we’ll arrive at a time where Justine Henin was the world’s best female tennis player. Not only was she the best, but she was rather dominant.

Having sat atop the world rankings for a couple of years, Henin surprised many tennis fans when she retired at the very young age of just 25 years old in 2008. Many wondered why she would call it quits when she was at the top of her game.

Her retirement had everything to do with the fact that she simply grew tired of the lifestyle that comes with that of a professional athlete. The training and the grueling schedule had taken their toll on this champion.

This would allow her to focus on both her charity work and her tennis school, as she took pride in training the many talented young kids who came to her school.

There was definitely a void in the world of women’s tennis. The number ones of the world weren’t truly the best in the minds of some fans, because they wondered if Henin would still be at the top of the ranks. Out of nowhere, some wishes were granted a few months ago when she said she’d return to the sport.

Still, there was doubt. Would she be able to play at the level she left off at? When someone goes nearly two years without playing a professional match, they can’t be expected to be as good.

Well, if her recent play is any sort of indication, all possibilities should be on the table at this point. With a first round straight sets win at the Brisbane International tournament against second seeded Nadia Petrova, she looked very much like her old self.

After seeing Kim Clijsters’ triumphant return to the sport after her US Open win last year, nothing should be considered unrealistic for Justine Henin.

Noteworthy Free Agent News In The Winter For MLB Clubs

As baseball fans patiently await the beginning of a new season, we’re still in a position where we’ve witnessed some notable free agent signings since the conclusion of the previous year of baseball. Cards have been shuffled and some teams have new and improved rosters as a result.

A few smart signings can seriously increase a team’s chances to contend. Look no further than the New York Yankees last season, as many credit their success to the free agents they signed.

Any team that attracts some big names like Burnett, Texeira, and Sabathia stands to contend. This gave them two of the best pitchers and one of the best hitters in the majors.

How about this year? Are there any teams with makeovers in process that seem destined to rise in the ranks of franchises next year? Here are a few of the biggest signings through the first couple months of the winter season.

In the world of pitchers, the biggest free agent was John Lackey. Not only does he boast a tremendous amount of playoff innings on his resume, but he’s also still young, as he’s just barely over 30 years old.

Lackey has a dangerous mix of power and finesse, and has the endurance to last into the late innings of baseball games. This will be particularly valuable once the later parts of the season roll around.

While the Angels will certainly miss their ace pitcher’s presence, they’ve been fortunate enough to make a valuable addition to their batting lineup. Having signed Hideki Matsui, they’ve stolen him away from the Yankees and will enjoy his presence on the team.

Matsui’s role as a fielder will be just as valuable to an Angels team that could stand to benefit from some more stellar defense. This helps to dampen the blow that they’ll feel from the loss of their star pitcher.

Is Joining Up To An E-lottery Syndicate For You?

It is widely appreciated that a lottery syndicate is quite simply the best way to participate in any lotto if you are searching for a way to improve your likelihood of winning some serious lottery cash. More than a quarter of all lotto jackpot wins are picked up by syndicates.

These lottery syndicates are usually set up by groups of work colleagues or friends who have the single aim of boosting their odds of scooping some lotto cash. Operating together in this manner gives each participant of the syndicate a greater number of winning chances while at the same time making sure expenditure is kept as low as possible.

Playing the lottery as a member of a syndicate can come with a significant odds improvement more than ever if the syndicate has a larger quantity of people taking part. Conversely, being a player in a lotto syndicate does have its downside.

The first and possibly the most obvious negative feature of a syndicate is the fact that all prize money is divided between all members of the syndicate equally. Consequently, the larger quantity of syndicate members there are, the lower the cash sum each of these members will collect. Because of this, a considerable lotto syndicate triumph may only generate sufficient cash for each member to pay for a holiday or a new car; but certainly not sufficient to give up the day job and acquire a Pacific island! If each syndicate member is aware of this eventuality then everybody should be content.

The second obstacle with lotto syndicates is linked to the point made above. Stories can at times be seen in the media regarding a syndicate member(s) who is loathed to share out the prize money to colleagues and instead tries to keep it. This can indeed be a considerable problem if the syndicate has been set up informally. If this is the set of circumstances, every syndicate member has then got to show in legal terms that they have been conned. There have also been situations where a member of a syndicate has lost their stake of a syndicate payout due to delayed or non payment of their syndicate payment. Situations like these often lead to legal action.

The third setback that may develop if no proper syndicate agreement has been formulated is that of inheritance tax issues. If the head of the syndicate collects the winnings and then “gifts” every member their equal share, then this tax could become a reality for every syndicate member.

Problems such as this can be scaled down hence making the overall process very much easier. If the syndicate is formed by utilizing a lottery syndicate contract then any of the issues emphasized here will no longer be an issue. Such syndicate agreements can be downloaded from your lottery provider’s website and in many cases can be picked up from your lotto retailer.

There is no real argument that the benefits of joining a lottery syndicate far outweigh the negative aspects involved. If the syndicate is put together in a legal manner as mentioned, the only things you genuinely have to worry about are making sure your syndicate payment is made each week and deciding what you will do with the money when your lotto syndicate secures the ultimate prize.

If you’ve ever thought of joining a euro millions or a UK National lottery syndicate or just buying tickets online please visit the elottery syndicate system and get all the information you need for most of the lotteries of the world.

Winning Methods With E-lottery

The E-lottery has been around since 2002, playing as a member of a lottery syndicate can come with a significant-odds advantage markedly if the syndicate has a larger quantity of people taking part. However, being a member of a lottery syndicate does have its downside though, which is that the prize Jackpot is shared between all members of the syndicate equally, Therefore, the more syndicate members there are, the less cash each of these members will obtain, but playing together in this manner allows each member of the syndicate a greater number of winning chances while at the same time making sure expenditure is kept as low as possible.

A powerful combination involving the strength of numbers and on-line flexibility has given those who participate in e-lottery syndicate groups something of a head start over others. Due to the way that the approach is set up, the UK lottery promoters estimate that as many as one in every four jackpots is won by a syndicate. Organizers of e-lottery syndicate groups seek to play on the convenience of membership, as you do not need to find players by yourself to get into a group with you, rather you will be put into every draw with 49 other members who are selected on your behalf.

Within the United Kingdom, the success of the National lottery means that rather than the original one drawing per week, games are now played on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Membership of the syndication may increase your chances of winning by over 700%. There are a total of 44 different entry combinations, with each line sharing five numbers and one unique number. This approach decreases the odds of winning the jackpot from– million to just one in 1.9 million.

The beauty of this form of online gaming is that you do not have to be resident in the hosting country to take part. Up to 200,000 people have been sufficiently impressed to join e-lottery syndicate groups so far. You can now buy your tickets online for the National Lottery from any number of internationally illustrious lottery ticket sales agents.

In a conventional lottery game a player is usually required to pick a batch of numbers from a specific number range as well as an additional bonus number. For example, in the UK National lotto a player has to choose 6 main numbers from 1-49 inclusive and then a further bonus number from the same range. To collect the top prize, a player needs to match all of their six main selected numbers with those numbers drawn.

A unique set of five numbers from 1-49 is allocated to each e-Lottery syndicate. The sixth number is guaranteed in every single UK National Lotto draw due to the fact that e-Lottery has cleverly catered for all permutations of the sixth number in a strict mathematical Pattern.

As a member of a euromillions syndicate you will enjoy a substantial advantage over those individuals buying lotto tickets the traditional way.

Is Blake Griffin the Answer for the Los Angeles Clippers?

The L.A. Clippers season was over before it began last season – which was shocking to most that the Clippers could be that bad, even for them.

Injury issues limited Davis, and even Camby to a degree. Still, the Los Angeles Clippers greatly underachieved, and ended up in a position that brought the franchise a number one draft pick.

His statistics still don’t show that he is completely healthy and playing at his high level again, but he has taken a leadership role. His numbers don’t need to be at his all time peak if his leadership role plays a big part of the team.

He does have noticeable flaws – not the best ball handling skills and a lack of a jumpshot – but those can be developed over time. He’s one of the most NBA ready players I’ve seen in a long time, but only time will tell what he’s going to turn into.

It looks as though Davis is ready to accept the fact that he no longer can take over a game at any moment. He could do that in Charlotte, and also at Golden State, but he is declining a bit with age catching up.

The Clippers have a very long history of failures and never found that core group of players that meshed long enough to make a serious playoff run. The leading scorer on the Clippers last season Zach Randolph, who isn’t on the team anymore. They only won 19 games with him as the leading scorer so it was time to make a change one would assume.

Griffin’s presence in the middle should easily free up the lane for Baron Davis, and create additional opportunities for players like Al Thornton to shine. He’s one of the strongest players coming out of college I’ve seen in a long time. Give him some time and he should be a stud.

Davis came to the Clippers with great intentions, and he can make a quick turnaround with a team that does have some nice pieces. Los Angeles will only have one relevant NBA team again this season though unless Baron Davis can lead the way at the point.

The Los Angeles Lakers Look to Repeat

The NBA season has just about arrived, and the Los Angeles Lakers are the definite favorite entering the season. Why, you might ask?

Well, for one, they’re the defending champions. They defeated the Orlando Magic with relative ease in the NBA finals, and looked very solid throughout the duration of the 2009 NBA playoffs.

It should also be noted that the only significant player the Lakers have lost is Trevor Ariza. While Ariza was a valuable role player in Los Angeles, he’s not one of the team’s stars, so all indicators would point to the notion that they should be okay without him.

More importantly, the Lakers have made a big acquisition during the off season and this has led many to believe that the team will dominate the league flat out during the 2009-2010 NBA basketball season.

Contributions from Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, Andrew Bynum, Trevor Ariza, Derek Fisher, and others made the Los Angeles Lakers a team with many dangerous weapons, and a team that no one wanted to face in the playoffs. This was an extremely deep team.

After a wildly successful season, one has to wonder if the Lakers can do this again. Kobe Bryant will turn 32 this season, still young enough to play some very effective basketball.

Still, other teams in the league have steadily improved over the past few years, and some like Orlando, Cleveland, San Antonio, and Boston have all made worthy acquisitions too.

Then there’s the x-factor, of course. The signing of Ron Artest, one of the best defensive players in basketball. Artest will turn 31, making for a well aged team that has the physical prowess and the knowledge to do anything a team is capable of doing. The Los Angeles Lakers are favorites to repeat entering the season.

Indiana Pacers Danny Granger Breaks Out

The Indiana Pacers season did not live up their standards in 08′-09′ winning only 36 games. This is not how most remember the Pacers, but the Miller days are over.

The bright side to their season was that they didn’t have trouble scoring; they averaged 105 points per game, 5th in the NBA. They still managed to go less than .500 on the season, thanks to their defensive qualities.

The Pacers defense was one of the worst in the NBA giving up more then 106 points per game for 26th in the NBA.

The Pacers have a young team with a good upside. The defense was their death blow last season giving up more points then they could score. More emphasis needs to be put on defense; we know the team can score.

His three point shooting was exceptional, as Granger averaged 2.7 three pointers made per game, and shot at a percentage that exceeded 40 percent. The Indiana Pacers were thrilled with this production and made it clear throughout the course of the season.

The Pacers did draft former college player of the year Tyler Hansbrough – what impact he will have in his rookie year in unknown. What Hansbrough lacks in skill he makes up for it in hustle.

The last time the Pacers finished with a record above .500 was in the 04′-05′ season – Pacers fans would hope to avoid another sub .500 season for the fifth straight year.

Head Coach Jim O’Brien has a good group of young talent that he would like to mold into a playoff team that can at least compete against the top teams in the East. If O’Brien manages another 36 win season his job could possibly be in danger. The President of Basketball Operations, Larry Bird, is a patient man – but he can’t tolerate another losing season.

Chauncey Billup’s Has Huge Impact For Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets were one of the surprising teams of the NBA last season. Things started to finally mesh for them.

The most shocking reason for this all stems from the fact that the Nuggets had traded Allen Iverson, the team’s second highest scorer, to the Detroit Pistons. This panned out to be a great deal!

The Nuggets look to improve on this upcoming season and make it to the finals. They didn’t have any real changes during the off-season, but their core is all healthy and will continue to improve with time.

There is no doubt that the Nuggets can score with the best team in the league – averaging 104 points per game, 6th in the NBA. When teams are great scoring team they typically don’t defend well. This was the case some years back for Denver but last season their defense improved dramatically.

Billups is also a great on court leader who knows how to play in big games. In 77 games with Denver Billups averaged 17 points per game, 6 assists and 91% at the free throw line. At 32 years old at the time, Billups seemed to hit the prime of his career.

Carmelo Anthony emerged as a defensive player as well because of Billups. Anthony could possibly be the best pure scorer in the entire NBA – that includes Kobe Bryant and Lebron James. Everyone knew ‘Melo could score but his improvement on defense was most impressive.

The San Antonio Spurs have added Richard Jefferson, the Dallas Mavericks added Shawn Marion, and the Los Angeles Lakers added Ron Artest.

The Denver Nuggets do have NBA Finals potential. But if they expect to make it there it seems as if they will have to go through the Lakers once again, Denver should improve as a team overall in 09-10.

Predictions for the Houston Rockets Season

The Houston Rockets were one of those teams last NBA season that quietly flew under the radar. Having finished the regular season with a 53-29 overall record, the Rockets just missed the number two seed in the playoffs by a mere game.

The Rockets went 53-29, which in the Western Conference is very good. The Rockets racked up wins by their defensive efforts holding teams under 95 points per game. The Rockets were 17th in scoring – which is why they couldn’t beat the Lakers, not enough fire power.

This nearly happened, as the Houston Rockets took the Los Angeles Lakers to a full seven games during the Western Conference semifinals last season. While the Lakers won this game 7 by a whole’ points, the Rockets had LA’s number during a few of these games, leaving many wondering just how dangerous this efficient basketball team was.

Yao Ming has been battling injuries his entire career and many as of late. We still do not know if he will play in the 09-10′ season.

The loss of Ron Artest is a blow because he was one of their best defenders. The Rockets ranked 6th in opposing team scoring last season but should see a drop off without Artest this season.

Yao Ming, Tracy McGrady, Shane Battier, Aaron Brooks, and the rest of the team have a lot of work cut out for them. These guys do like a challenge.

The Rockets are a playoff team with the current roster they have. If the Rockets are ever going to contend for a championship they must stay healthy. Every year someone seems to get hurt thus limiting their chances at a serious title run.

While they did take the Lakers to 7 games – the Lakers team were by far the better team and should have won possibly in 5-6 games at the most.

AFC and NFC Contenders in 2009

With the football season nearly halfway over, it looks like the contenders and the pretenders are starting to separate themselves. The race is wide open in both conferences, but there are some very obvious front runners at the moment.

It’s time to review the season thus far by proclaiming the best teams in each conference. When all is said and done, I’ll then go ahead in making a Super Bowl prediction.

First, we’ll have a glance at the AFC picture. While there are a bunch of teams in good shape, I’d like to start off with a mention of the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers. After losing Troy Polamalu to injury, the state of this team was in peril. However, they’re looking as good as they have all season as their star defender has returned to action.

Next on the list would be the New England Patriots. Tom Brady has shaken off some rust and is beginning to look like his old self, making the sky the limit in New England. Additionally, the Broncos can’t be forgotten about with just one loss thus far.

In addition to these three teams, the Indianapolis Colts are right there as well. In fact, they may be the best in the AFC thus far, as the team has won its first 7 games. Peyton Manning looks as good as he ever has, and they’re the team to beat.

Let’s look at the NFC next. Any conversation about the NFC has to start with the New Orleans Saints, still undefeated through eight weeks.

Drew Brees may very well win the league MVP if his second half looks anything like his first seven games, and the defense has been effective enough to provide the team with enough of a cushion to win each of its first seven games.

The Saints are the favorite to emerge in the NFC at the moment. However, they’ll have to fight off some other teams playing great football. The Vikings and the Eagles could very well be just as strong, and the Cowboys are finally beginning to get things together. Looming not too far behind are the defending NFC champion Cardinals, and of course, the New York Giants.
